Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Celiac vs Me app for iPhone and Android and the website celiacvsme.com, both operated by Tech Bebop LLC (“we”, “us”). The short version: no accounts, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no selling or sharing of data.
What we collect when you ask a question
- Your questions. The text of each question, and any photo you attach, is sent to our server and on to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the answer. Questions are logged with a random conversation id and an approximate location (city, region, country) derived from your connection. No IP address is stored.
- Conversation content. The server holds your current conversation, with the app's anonymous device identifier, so follow-up questions have context. It is cleared when you start a new chat or after a period of inactivity.
- Usage statistics. Per-answer token and cost counts, and the number of questions each device has asked (for the free questions), used to run and improve the service.
- Quality monitoring. During the current testing period, submitted questions (with the approximate location above) may also be forwarded to the operator for quality review. This will be narrowed or removed at public launch.
The app
- Conversation history stays on your device. The app saves your recent conversations (including photo thumbnails) only on your phone. They are never uploaded, and deleting the app deletes them.
- Anonymous device identifier. The app uses an anonymous identifier to account for free questions and subscription status: on iPhone a random one stored in your device keychain, on Android one derived from the app-specific identifier Android gives each app. It contains no personal information and is not used for tracking.
- Device check. The app shows our server that requests come from the genuine app on a real device: on iPhone with Apple's App Attest service (which creates a key on your device; we store only its public half, linked to the anonymous identifier above), on Android with Google Play Integrity (Google checks the app and device and sends us a verdict; we record only whether it passed).
- Photos. A photo you attach (an ingredient label, a menu) is used only to answer that question: it is sent to our server and to Anthropic's API for processing and held as part of the current conversation until it is cleared. Photos are not used for advertising, profiling, or training by us.
- Reading the book. Subscribers can read the book in the app. The text is downloaded from our server using the anonymous device identifier, and kept on your device for offline reading. Your reading position and progress are saved only on your device and are never sent to us.
- Location. The app does not ask for or use your device's location.
- Subscriptions. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We receive a record of the purchase to verify your subscription, never your payment details.
The website
The website (this page, the book pages, and the blog) has no sign-in, no forms, no cookies of its own, and no analytics or advertising trackers. It is served by Cloudflare.
Contact
If you email us, we keep the message like any correspondence and use it only to reply.
Service providers
We use a small set of processors to run the service: Anthropic (Claude, which generates answers; questions and photos are processed under Anthropic's commercial terms), Cloudflare (hosting and storage), Apple (iPhone app distribution, subscriptions, and App Attest), and Google (Android app distribution, subscriptions, and Play Integrity). We do not sell or share personal information with anyone for advertising.
Retention
Question logs and usage statistics are kept to improve the service. Server-side conversation content is transient, as described above. On-device history is yours: it lives and dies with the app on your phone.
Children
Celiac vs Me is intended for adults (18 or older), as our Terms of Use state. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes materially, the effective date above will change with it. Questions? Email hello@celiacvsme.com.
