Terms of Use
The short version
Celiac vs Me is an app for iPhone and Android that answers questions about living with celiac disease, made and run by Tech Bebop LLC (“we”, “us”). The “Service” means the app and our website, celiacvsme.com, which describes the app and hosts excerpts from the book and a blog. Answers are generated by AI. They are general information, not medical advice, and they can be wrong. You decide what to do with them. By using the Service, you agree to these terms.
1. Who can use Celiac vs Me
You must be an adult (18 or older) to use the Service. It is not intended for children or teenagers. A parent can use it to look up information for their child, and remains responsible for how that information is used.
2. What Celiac vs Me is
Celiac vs Me answers questions about celiac disease and gluten-free living. Its answers draw on public medical reference material, the book Celiac vs Me, and web searches limited to a list of medical and celiac sources. It can also answer questions about a photo you take, such as an ingredient label or a menu. Subscribers can also read the book in the app. Questions are answered only in the app; the website doesn't answer questions.
3. Not medical advice
This is the most important part of these terms.
- Information only. Celiac vs Me is not a doctor, a dietitian, or any other health professional, and nothing it says is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It does not replace your own care team.
- Check before you act. Before you change how you eat, start, stop, or change a medication or supplement, or rely on an answer about your health, talk to your doctor or dietitian.
- Testing. If you are still being tested for celiac disease, don't go gluten-free until your doctor says testing is done. It can make the results invalid.
- Urgent symptoms. Don't use the Service for emergencies or urgent symptoms. If you think you need urgent care, contact your doctor or emergency services right away.
- Food decisions are yours. Whether a food, product, or restaurant is safe for you is your decision. Always read the current label, and ask a restaurant directly about its ingredients and preparation.
4. AI-generated answers
Answers are generated by AI and provided “as is.” They can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong, including details about ingredients, labels, products, restaurants, studies, and medical facts. The sources an answer links to are run by other people; we don't control them and can't promise they are accurate or still available.
5. Products, brands, and places
Answers may name products, brands, restaurants, bakeries, and other businesses. That information comes from public sources and can change at any time: recipes change, kitchens change, and listings go out of date. A name appearing in an answer is not an endorsement, a safety guarantee, or a sign of any relationship with us.
6. What you send
You are responsible for the questions and photos you send. We use them only to answer you and to run and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy. Please do not:
- Send other people's private information, or photos of people.
- Send anything unlawful, hateful, or harassing.
- Try to misuse, manipulate, or “jailbreak” the AI, or use the Service for anything other than questions about celiac disease and gluten-free living.
We run automated checks on questions and may decline ones that are off topic. The app also confirms that requests come from the genuine app on a real device, using Apple's App Attest on iPhone and Google Play Integrity on Android. We may also limit, suspend, or block use that appears abusive or automated.
7. Free questions and subscriptions
The app is free to download and includes a number of free questions. After that, asking new questions requires an auto-renewing subscription, billed monthly or yearly, subject to reasonable limits that keep the Service running and prevent abuse. The current price is always shown before you buy, in the app and on its App Store or Google Play page. A subscription also includes the full text of the book Celiac vs Me in the app, for your own personal reading; the book is protected by copyright, so please don't copy, share, or republish its text.
- Free questions. Free questions are counted for each device, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- Billing. Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (on iPhone) or Google (on Android). Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Account when you confirm the purchase. We never see or store your payment details.
- Auto-renewal. Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel anytime: on iPhone in Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android in the Google Play app → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Your access continues to the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds. Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, under its rules: Apple for App Store purchases (reportaproblem.apple.com), Google for Google Play purchases (Google Play refunds). We can't issue store refunds ourselves.
- Changes. We may change the price or what the subscription includes. Changes apply from your next renewal, with notice as the store's rules require.
8. App store terms
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on devices you own or control, as permitted by the rules of the store you got it from. If you got it from Google Play, Google Play's Terms of Service also apply, and Google is not responsible for the app. If you got it from the App Store, a few extra points apply, as Apple requires us to spell out:
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for it.
- If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the app's purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple isn't responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product-liability claims, claims that the app doesn't meet a legal or regulatory requirement, or consumer-protection claims.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you once you accept them.
9. Availability and changes
We offer Celiac vs Me on a best-effort basis and may change, pause, or discontinue any part of it at any time. We can't guarantee the Service will always be available, and the features offered may change over time.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, including any warranty that its answers are accurate, complete, or current. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tech Bebop LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service or its answers, including any illness, reaction, or other harm that follows from relying on them. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll post the new version here and change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the Service means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco, California.
